Wall Recovers Well After Qualifying Drama

One set of tyres for qualifying proved not enough for Wilson Security Racing at Ipswich today, giving driver David Wall a mountain to climb in this afternoon's 45-lap race.

Wall speared off on his first set of qualifying tyres and, with one chance left to bank a lap, erred on the side of caution. Unfortunately that saw him start today's race from the back row.

Avoiding spinning cars on the first lap elevated him up the order and, by mid-way, Wall was comfortably inside the top 20. It was not to last, however, when a stranded Jason Bright blocked Wall's entrance into his pit box costing him at least five places.

Wall eventually finished 21st and is now looking forward to nailing qualifying at 13.00 tomorrow.

"In qualifying I fired it off on my first set of softs. Before I went off the track we were on a decent lap somewhere in the 1m9s. That backed us into a corner with one set of tyres left to qualify on and I was too cautious, plus the car balance changed between sets. We're far better than 28th as far as our package goes. Realistically we should be late teens; that would be a job I'd be happy with.

"The race was very busy at the start; a lot of people with a lot of body damage happening early in a 140km race. We stayed out of it and were lucky not to be more heavily involved.

"Our stop was compromised as Brighty had trouble getting out of the box. That got us stuck behind Taz Douglas for a little bit. If you look at the race, 17th or 18th is about the best we could have done. That would have been a better day than where we finished qualifying but we're aiming for top 15; that's where we want to be at."
